A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FUNDING FOR THE FUTURE
CONSTRUCTION OF IMPROVEMENTS TO ASHBY POND_
WHEREAS, improvements to Ashby Pond have been proposed to dredge the pond
and provide related improvements to enhance the quality of the water that flows from the
pond. Other improvements include a trail around the pond and other minor improvements to
support the use of this area as a city park; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax and Virginia Tech have received a grant from the
National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Chesapeake Bay Stewardship Fund in the amount of
$318,990 to cover the design and future water quality monitoring of the pond. The matching
funds for the grant will come from the city's commitment to construct the pond improvements
at an estimated cost of $315,000; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax is currently in negotiations with the Northern
Virginia Regional Park Authority(NVRP A~ to possibly fund the pond improven-acnts in
exchange for the use of land at the city's Beaver Creek Daaza facility; and
WHEREAS, if funding is not received through the NVRPA, funds are available in the
Stormwater Account for this work; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF FAIRFAX THAT=
• If funding is not received from NVRPA, the city will allocate the funds for the
pond improvements from the Stormwater Account_
