AN ORDINANCE AlVIENDING CFIAPTER 66, ARTICLE I, SECTION 66-13(A) OF
TFIE CODE OF TFIE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, PERTAINING TO
FIOLIDA YS OBSERVED BY THE CITY
BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, that Chapter 66,
Article I" Section 66-13(a) of the Code of the City of Fairfax" Virginia" is hereby amended as

Sec. 66-13(a) FIolidays. The follovving holidays shall be observed by the city:
Ne'\.V Year's Day: January 1.
l'V1artin Luther King" Jr. Day: Third l\/londay in January_
George ,^,,"ashington"s Day: Third l\/londay in February_
l'V'femorial Day: Last l"vlo.nday in l\/lay_
Independence Day: July 4.
Labor Day: First l\/londay in September.
Veterans Day: November 11
Tha.n.ksgiving Day: Fourth Thursday in November.
Day after Thanksgiving: Friday next follo",-,"ing the fourth Thursday in November.
Christmas Eve: One-half day on December 24.
Christmas Day: December 25.
The city manager may substitute another day as a holiday in lieu of one of the days
listed above.
Holidays falling on a Saturday or Sunday shall typically be taken on a Friday or a
J\t1:onday, respectively.
All full-time employees shall receive eight hours of holiday pay for each holiday except that
those employees "V\Tho "V\Tork an average of 56 hours per "V\Teek shall receive 11 hours of pay for
each holiday. At the discretion of the city manager, holiday pay may be suspended for all
employees, a group of employees, or for individual employees. Employees "V\Till be notified of
any suspension of holiday pay by the city manager. Hours paid for holidays shall not be
counted to"-Vards hours "V\Torked for the purpose of calculating overtime.
Employees scheduled to "V\Tork on a holiday vvho take off on sick or annual leave shall
be charged "V\Tith such leave and their pay shall be calculated accordingly.
Employees in regular part-time positions "V\Torking ten hours or more each "V\Teek shall
be paid for holidays in proportion to hours scheduled to be "V\Torked in the "V\Teek in "V\Thich a
holiday falls.
This ordinance shall become effective as provided by la"V\T.
