BUDGET PROCESS
"VVHEREAS, the City of Fairfax currently has a favorable balance betvvcen residential
and commercial sources ofreverrues; and
VVHEREAS,. the City Council vvishes to insure that this balance is maintained; and
V\THEREAS" in order to achieve the above" the City Council needs to exercise careful
deliberations throughout the budget process;
NOV\/', THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
1 _ The J\...1.:ayor and City Council shall develop general guidelines for the budget and
provide them to the City J'V1:anager by October 31; and
2. The Capital lrrlprovements Program shall be considered by the City Council prior 1:0
its consideration. of the annual budget; and
3. VVhere appropriate, revenues related to expenditures shall be reflected in the proposed
budget documents; and
4. The 1\.I1ayor and City Council shall meet "-Vith selected boards and commissions in "-Vork
sessions as part of the budget deliberations to revie"-V budget items conceming areas of
interest to the boards and commission; and
5. The J\Ilayor and City Council shall conduct a mid-point revievv of the implementation
of the budget; and
6. The City Council shall adopt the budget for the coming fiscal year at the first regular
meeting in April of each year.
