RESOLUTION NO. R-06-33
CITY COUNCIL lVlEETINGS
VVHEREAS. the City Charter, Chapter 5, Section 5.5. states that the first meeting of
the nevvly elected City Council shall take place in the Council chamber at the City Hall on the
first Tuesday of July rollo-vving its election; and
VV"HEREAS, the time,. place and dates or future meetings may be determined by the
City COurlcil; an-d
VVHEREAS, it is the policy of the Virginia Freedom or Information Act that affairs of
govemment be traTlsacted in public; and
VVHEREAS, the City Council is desirous or conducting effective and efficient
meetings V\Tith maximum public participation and kr:1cn;"rlerlge in rull vievv or the public eye;
and
V\THEREAS", the City Council is desirous or an.d vvill attempt to complete city business
in three (3) meetings each month;
NOVV. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
1. The first Tuesday or each month shall be reserved for ""ork sessions, intervievvs,
special meetings, and closed meetings, as necessary. The second and fourth Tuesday
of each month shall be regular City Council meetings for public hearings and other
action items. The third Tuesday of each mo:nth shall be reserved for special meetings
and meeti:ngs vvith boards and commissio:ns and other groups, as necessary.
2. lVleetings and intervie'-Vs generally shall not be scheduled to start before 7:00 p.m.
3. The meetings generally shall be designed to end no later than 10:30 p.m.
4. Should extensive public ""ork sessions or special meetings of City Council be
necessary, it shall be determined by the lVlayor and shall be scheduled as appropriate
and shall be publicly announced, at vvhich time the subject matter ""ill also be
announced.
5. The lVlayor and the City lVlanager shall set the proposed City Council agenda.
6. City Council meetings shall not be scheduled in August, if possible.
