RESOLUTION TO INITIATE AND REFER TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION A
CHANGE IN THE ZONING CLASSIFICATION FROM R-2 AND R-3 TO C-2 OF THE
PROPERTY LOCATED AT 3915 CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD AND MORE PARTICULARLY
DESCRIBED AS TAX MAP PARCEL 57-2-((2)-166 (THE SUBJECT PROPERTY).
WHEREAS, the City has entered into an agreement with Fairfax County to construct a new
library on City-owned property; and
WHEREAS, the subject property is the current site of the Fairfax City Regional Library; and
WHEREAS, the current library is planned to be demolished and redeveloped as residential
condominiums; and
WHEREAS, a change in the zoning designation of the subject property will be necessary to
facilitate the planned redevelopment; and
WHEREAS, the subject property is currently zoned R-2 and R-3, while the remainder of the
block is zoned C-2; and
WHEREAS, the C-2 zoning district will permit the proposed redevelopment,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax,
Virginia on this 12th day of July, 2005 that, pursuant to Sec. 15.2 -2286 of the Code of
Virginia, and Sec. 110-5 of the Code of the City of Fairfax and as required by public necessity
and convenience and good zoning practice, the City Council does hereby initiate and refer to
the Planning Commission the change in the zoning classification of the subject property from
R-2 and R-3 to C-2, to be considered at a joint public hearing scheduled to be conducted on
July 26, 2005.
