AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 14, SECTION 14-16 (b) . 10, OF THE CODE
OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA CONCERNING CONSTRUCTION NOISE.
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia that Section
14-16 (b) .10 of the Code of the City of Fairfax is hereby amended to read in its entirety as
follows:
10. Construction or repair of buildings: The erection (including excavating),
demolition, alteration or repair of any building other than between the hours of 7:00
A.M. and 6:00 P.M. on weekdays and 8:30 A.M. and 5 P.M. on Saturdays, except in
the case of urgent necessity in the interest of public health and safety, and then only
when authorized by the building official, which authorization may be granted for a
period not to exceed three days while the emergency continues and which
authorization may be renewed for periods of three days or less while the emergency
continues. Interior work which does not generate noise discernable at the property
line shall not constitute a prohibited act.
This ordinance shall become effective as provided by law.
