AN ORDINANCE TO ADOPT THE FINAL DRAFT COMPREHENSIVE PLAN,
AS AMENDED, FOR THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 15.1-454 of the ~ode of Virginia, the
Planning Commission reviewed the Comprehensive Plan; and
WHEREAS, at a public hearing held on January 25, 1993, the Planning
Commission determined that it was advisable to redraft the Comprehensive
Plan adopted November 29, 1988 and amended 12/18/90 and 7/11/95; and
WHEREAS, in the preparation of the Final Draft Comprehensive Plan,
the Planning Commission held numerous public work sessions to study land
use, transportation and other matters specified in the Code of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission held public hearings on February
26, 1996, April 22, 1996 and January 13, 1997, pursuant to Section 15.1-448 of the
Code of Virginia to solicit public input; and
WHEREAS, at its meeting of January 13, 1997, the Planning Commission
adopted a resolution recommending the Final Draft Plan, with amendments,
and certified a copy to the City Council; and
WHEREAS, in its consideration of the Final Draft Comprehensive Plan,
the City Council conducted several public work sessions and, pursuant to
Section 15.1-450 of the Code of Virginia, held public hearings on January 14,
1997 and January 28, 1997, to solicit'public input; and
WHEREAS, the City Council adopted the Final Draft Comprehensive Plan
with amendments on February 25, 1997; moved to reconsider on March 11,
1997; and reconsidered, amended, and readopted on March 25, 1997; and
WHEREAS, the Final Draft Comprehensive Plan has been developed for
the purpose of guiding and accomplishing a coordinated, adjusted and
harmonious development of the City which will, in accordance with present
and probable future needs and resources best promote the health, safety,
morals, order, convenience, prosperity and general welfare of its inhabitants;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of
Fairfax, Virginia, on this 25th day of March 1997, that the Final Draft
Comprehensive Plan dated December 4, 1996, as amended March 25, 1997, is
hereby adopted.
