AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 8-32(C)
AND 8-34, ARTICLE VII, CHAPTER 8, AND
SECTIONS 8-41 AND 8-43, ARTICLE VIII,
CHAPTER 8 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY
OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA CONCERNING THRESHOLD
INCOME FOR REAL ESTATE TAX AND RENT RELIEF
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, that
the first sentence of Section 8-32(c), Article VII, Chapter 8 of the Code of the City
of Fairfax, Virginia is hereby amended to read in its entirety as follows:
Sec.
(c)
8-32. Criteria for Exemption.
The gross combined income of the owner(s) during the year immediately
preceding the taxable year must be determined by the city manager to be an
amount not in excess of thirf4? fortI thousand dollars ;¢-m nan an\
$40,000.00).
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax,
Virginia, that Section 8-34, Article VII, Chapter 8 of the Code of the City of
Fairfax, Virginia is hereby amended to read in its entirety as follows:
Sec 8-34.
Calculation of amount of exemption; limitation.
For eligible owners with a gross combined income not in excess ofthiay

real estate tax for any taxable year shall be equal to their real estate tax liability up

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax,
Virginia, that the first sentence of Section 8-41(c), Article VIII, Chapter 8 of the
Code of the City of Fairfax, Virginia is hereby amended to read in its entirety as
follows:
Sec. 8-4.1.. Qualifications for grants.
(c) The gross combined income of the applicant(s) during the grant year
shall be an amount not in excess of thirty forty thousand dollars f¢'~a ann
($4o,000.00).
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax,
Virginia, that the first sentence of Section 8-43, Article VIII, Chapter 8 of the Code
of the City of Fairfax, Virginia is hereby amended to read in its entirety as follows:

Sec. 8-43. Calculation of amount of grant; limitation.
For eligible applicants with a gross combined income not in excess ofth:,~y
forty thousand dollarst~,.,v,,,,,,,.,,,,jt~:'~n nrta nr,~ ($40,000.00), the amount of grant shall be equal
to ten (10) percent of the actual annual rent paid for a dwelling in the city during the
grant year up to a maximum of four hundred twenty dollars ($420.00).
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax,
Virginia that the remaining provisions and subsections of those sections hereby
amended shall continue to read as previously enacted.
This ordinance shall become effective as provided by law.
