AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 8, ARTICLE
I, OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX,
VIRGINIA, BY ADDING THERETO A NEW
SECTION 8-3.01 CONCERNING PERSONAL
PROPERTY TAX ON CERTAIN MOTOR VEHICLES
OWNED BY MEMBERS OF A VOLUNTEER RESCUE
SQUAD OR VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT.
1. BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of
Fairfax, Virginia, that Chapter 8, Article I, of the Code of
the City of Fairfax is hereby amended by adding thereto a
new Section 8.3-01 To read in its entirety as follows:
Section 8-3.01 Personal Property Tax on Certain Motor
Vehicles Owned by Members of a Volunteer
Rescue Squad or Volunteer Fire
Department.
One motor vehicle which is owned by each volunteer
rescue squad member or volunteer fire department member may
be specially classified as a separate class of personal
property, provided the volunteer rescue squad member or
volunteer fire department member regularly responds to
emergency calls. In January of each year, the said
volunteer shall furnish the commissioner of revenue with a
certification by the chief or head of the volunteer
organization, that said volunteer is a member of the
volunteer rescue squad or fire department who regularly
responds to calls or regularly performs other duties for the
rescue squad or fire department, and the motor vehicle owned
by the volunteer rescue squad member or volunteer fire
department member is identified.
2. This ordinance shall become effective as provided by
law.
