AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 26, ARTICLE XVII, BOARD OF
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW, SECTION 26-196, MEETINGS, OF THE CODE
OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, TO REDUCE THE REQUIRED
QUORUM FOR BOARD OF ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW MEETINGS.
WHEREAS, the role of the Board of Architectural Review in
facilitating attractive community appearance is vital to
successful economic development; and
WHEREAS, the existing quorum requirements for conducting
Board of A~chitectural Review meetings can not always be met and
has necessitated rescheduled meeting dates, resulting in delay
and expense to applicants; and
WHEREAS, a reduction in quorum requirements for the Board
of Architectural Review is consistent with existing quorum
requirements for other boards and commissions;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the
City of Fairfax, Virginia, that Article XVII, Section 26-196 of
the Code of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, is hereby amended to
read as follows:
Sec. 26-196. Meetings.
The chairman shall conduct the meetings of the BAR. The
secretary shall be responsible for keeping the minutes of the
meetings and a permanent record of all resolutions, motions,
transactions and determinations, which minutes and records shall
be open to public inspection in the office of the zoning
administrator. Any four (4) members shall constitute a quorum.
Decisions of the BAR shall be determined by the vote of a
majority of the membership present and voting.
This ordinance shall become effective as provided by law.
