19920414 1992-7ORDINANCE NO. 1992- 7 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE III, CHAPTER 8, OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, BY ADDING THERETO A NEW SECTION 8-9.1 ESTABLISHING A TAX FOR ENHANCED EMERGENCY TELEPHONE (E-911) SERVICE BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council for City of Fairfax, Virginia, that Article III, Chapter 8, of the Code of the City of Fairfax is amended by adding thereto a new Section 8-9.1 to read in its entirety as follows: Section 8-9.2 Amoun~ of tax for enhanced emergency ~elephone service In addition to the tax imposed and levied under Section 8-9 of this article, there is hereby imposed and levied by the city upon each and every purchaser of local telephone service a tax in the amount of twenty-two cents ($0.22) per telephone line per month. This tax shall be paid by the purchaser to the seller of local telephone service for the use of the city to pay the initial capital, installation, and maintenance costs of its E-911 system. Such tax shall not be imposed on federal, state and local govern- ment agencies. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by the City Council that this ordinance is enacted upon a finding by the City Council that an E-911 emergency telephone system has been installed in the City of Fairfax and that the telephone company has central office equipment which permits such system to be established.
