19920728 1992-25ORDINANCE NO. 1992-25 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 2-38, ARTICLE VIII, CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, CONCERNING THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE COMMUNITY APPEARANCE COMMITTEE BE IT ORDAINED by the city Council of the city of Fairfax, Virginia, that Section 2-38, Article VII, Chapter 2 of the Code of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, is hereby amended as follows: Section 2-38. Members qenerally. (a) The community appearance committee shall consist of e~ ten (10) members, all of whom shall be appointed by the city council. All appointees shall be residents of the city· (b) One member shall be appointed from among the member- ship of the board of architectural review, ....................... city~..~,~ one member from the membership of the planning commission and one member each shall be appointed from lists of nominees submitted by: (1) The~~"~~ ~--~ Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. (2) A local garden club. (3) The student government of Fairfax High School. (c) The remaining members shall be appointed from among the citizens-at-large, one of whom shall be an architect or landscape architect. (d) The terms of the members appointed from the board of architectural review , th~ city ccuncil and the planning commission shall coincide with their terms on the board of ~ ....... 1 and the planning architectural review, ~--~ ~--~ ~z ........ ~ commission. The term of the member appointed from the Fairfax High School shall be for one year. The terms of the other members shall be for three (3) years in staggered sequence and these members shall determine by lot which two (2) members shall serve as initial one-year term, which two (2) members shall serve an initial two-year term and which two (2) members shall serve an initial three-year term. (e) At the first meeting of each calendar year, the community appearance committee shall elect a chairman and vice- chairman from among its membership to serve for a term of one year with eligibility for reelection. In conducting such elections, the committee should consider the advisability of rotating the chairmanship among its members. (f) Vacancies occurring in the committee for reasons other than the expiration of terms shall be filled as they occur for the period of the unexpired term. Members may be immediately reappointed upon the expiration of their terms. 1992-25 -2 (g) Members of the committee shall serve without pay but may be reimbursed for actual expenses incident to the perfor- mance of their duties. (h) Members may be removed for cause by a two-thirds vote of the council. This ordinance shall become effective as provided by law.
