19920908 1992-29ORDINANCE NO. 1992-29 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 15-7, ARTICLE II, CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, CONCERNING THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE PARK AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, that Section 15-7, Article II, Chapter 15 of the Code of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, is hereby amended in its entirety as follows: Section 15-7. Composition; appointment and terms of office members. The park and recreation advisory board shall consist of twelve (12) members selected as nearly as possible from the various groups within the city having an interest in park and recreation facilities and programs. Nine ('9) members of the advisory board shall be appointed by the city council, of which one (1) shall be a member of the planning commission and one a member of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority. The tenth member shall be a member of the commission on the arts who is designated by the commission on the arts. The eleventh member shall be a member of the city school board who is designated by the school board. The twelfth member shall be a nonvoting, advisory representative of the city's teen council. Such member shall be a city resident, chosen by the teen council, and a member of the teen council at all times during the term of such member of the park and recreation advisory board. Members of the board shall serve at the pleasure of the city council or for three (3) years, whichever is shorter. The park and recreation advisory board meets on the second Tuesday of the months September through June. Occasionally, a special meeting not held at the regular time may be called. In an effort to stress the importance of meeting, members who miss three regular meetings within this ten-month period will be presumed to have resigned, and the commission chairman will notify the City Clerk in writing, requesting advertisement to fill the vacancy. Consideration for extenuating circumstances will be given on an individual basis.,, This ordinance shall become effective as provided by law.
