AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 13-65,
13-66, 13-67 AND 13-71.1 OF ARTICLE
III, CHAPTER 13 OF THE CODE OF THE
CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA CONCERNING
MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSES, LICENSE YEAR,
LICENSE STICKERS AND TRANSFER
THEREOF.
1. BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of
Fairfax, Virginia that Sections 13-65, 13-66, 13-67 and
13-71.1 of Article III, Chapter 13 of the Code of the
City of Fairfax, Virginia are hereby amended to read in
their entirety as follows:
Sec. 13-65. Amount and proration of tax.

(b) One-half of the annual fee shall be collected
for licenses issued during the period beginning on~-l~

License year; vehicles licensed after
M~ January 1 to be licensed only for
new license year.
The license year under the terms of this article

following calendar year. Stickers for the new license
year shall go on sale on Ma~eh--~ January 1, and vehicles
subject to this article being taxed for the first time on
or after the date shall be taxed only for the new license
year.

Sec. 13-67. License stickers.
All persons upon whose vehicles a tax is imposed by
this article shall apply, within thirty (30) days of
moving into the city or acquiring title to the vehicle,

to the treasurer and the sticker thereupon issued for the
licensed vehicle. Where applicable to a motor vehicle,

inspection sticker. Where applicable to any other
vehicle subject to this article, the sticker shall be
displayed in a prominent place and may be appropriately
protected by a transparent material.
Sec. 13-71.1. Transfer of licenses; fees.
(a) Any owner of a motor vehicle who sells or

transfers a
registered in the city under the provisions of this
article, may, upon application to the treasurer within
thirty (30) days of such sale or transfer, may have the
license transferred by surrendering the sticker from the
vehicle sold or transferred and being issued a new

.... ~..~d to another vehicle titled in such owner's name.
(b) Any owner of a motor vehicle registered in
another Virginia jurisdiction during the current city
license year, which vehicle acquires a situs in the city
during the current license year, may, upon surrendering
the sticker from the vehicle acquiring a situs in the
city, be issued a city sticker for the current license
year.

a description of the motor vehicle to which such license
is to be transferred. Such applications shall be
accompanied by the dc~al ~ticker from the previously
registered vehicle and a fee of one dollar ($1.00).
2. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the remaining
subsections of the sections hereby amended shall continue
to read as previously enacted.
This ordinance shall become effective as provided by
law.
