AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE SCHEDULE OF RATES
AND LEVIES OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX FOR
ZONING FEES FOR SIGN PERMITS, OCCUPANCY
PERMITS, SOIL AND EROSION PERMITS, SPECIAL
USE PERMITS, VARIANCES, SPECIAL EXCEPTIONS,
SUBDIVISION FEES, SITE PLAN REVIEW FEES AND
ALL OTHER ZONING FEES.
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that
the zoning fees currently charged are not sufficient
to cover the costs of providing the various zoning
services; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Community Develop-
ment and Planning has determined the increases
required to defray the costs of providing the
various zoning services; and
WHEREAS, this ordinance is being adopted as an
emergency ordinance because in order to include the
increased fees in the Fiscal Year 1989-90 Budget,
an emergency exists which requires the City Council
to consider the fee increases without first meeting
the advertising requirements of Section 15.1-29.14
of the Code of Virginia of 1950, as amended; and
WHEREAS, this ordinance will not be enforced
for more than sixty (60) days unless reenacted in
accordance with Section 15.1-29.14 of the Code of
Virginia of 1950, as amended; and
WHEREAS, the new zoning fees will be incorp-
orated into the 1989-1990 Schedule of Rates and
Levies;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED that the follow-
ing zoning fees are hereby approved and adopted:
Sign Permits
Level 1 - 1 to 50 square feet at $2.00/square foot
Level 2 - 51 to 100 square feet at $3.00/square foot
Level 3 - 101 and above at $5.00/square foot
Occupancy Permits
Businesses - $25.00
Residences - $25.00
Minor Home Occupation - $25.00
Soil and Erosion Permits
$100.00 base plus $50.00 per acre, or fraction
thereof, of disturbed land.

This ordinance is passed by a two-thirds affirmative vote of
the members of the City Council present.
This ordinance shall become effective immediately.
