AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 8-2 OF THE FAIRFAX
CITY CODE AND PERTAINING TO BIENNIAL APPLICATIONS
FOR REAL ESTATE TAX EXEMPTIONS
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax,
Virginia, that Section 8-2 of the Fairfax City Code be and hereby is
amended by the addition of a subsection (d) which shall read in its entirety
as follows:
"(d) Any entity, except the Commonwealth, any political subdivision
of the Commonwealth or the United States, which owns real
property exempt from real estate taxation under the provisions of
Chapter 36 of Title 58.1 of the Code of Virginia, as amended, shall
file biennially an application with the department of real estate
assessment as a prerequisite to the retention of tax exempt status
for the property. Such application shall show the ownership and
usage of the exempt property and shall be filed within the next sixty
days preceding the tax year for which such exemption, or the
retention thereof, is sought."
This ordinance shall be come effective immediately upon execution
by the mayor.
