19821123 1982-42ORDINANCE NO. 1982-42 AN ORDINANCE ADDING A NEW SECTION 4-19 TO ARTICLE III OF CHAPTER 4 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA. BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, finding that an emergency exists, hereby enacts an emergency ordinance pursuant to the authority granted by Section 29-213.22 of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as amended, to be numbered 4-19, and to read in its entirety as follows: Sec. 4-19. Cats--rabies inoculation ( a ) It shal 1 be unlawful for the owner or custodian of a cat to keep, harbor or have in his custody or control a cat six (6) months old or older for longer than fourteen (14) days, unless such cat has been vaccinated with a rabies vaccine approved by the state department of health and the vaccination is not beyond the expiration date for such vaccination. (b) Rabies inoculation receipts, issued by a veterinarian at the time of vaccination, shall be carefully preserved by the owner or custodian of the cat and exhibited promptly upon request for inspection by any animal warden or other officer. (c) Every person who shall be in violation of this section shall be guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, be punished as provided in section 1-6(a)(4). (d) This section shall pass only upon two-thirds affirmative vote of the members of the city council present. This ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its execution by the Mayor.
