19780404 1978-9ORDINANCE NO. 1978- 9 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, TO ADD TO CHAPTER TWO OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, A NEW ARTICLE XIV, PROVIDING FOR THE CREATION OF A DEPARTMENT OF FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICES. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, that Chapter 2 of the Code of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, be and the same hereby is, amended by the addition of a new article numbered Article XIV thereto to provide for the creation of a department of fire and rescue services, reading in its entirety as follows: ARTICLE XIV. Department of Fire and Rescue Services. Sec. 2-67. Created. There is hereby created a department of the city government which shall be known as the "department of fire and rescue services." Sec. 2-68. Director. The office of the director of fire and rescue services is hereby created. The director shall, subject to the supervision of the city manager, plan, organize and direct the department of fire and rescue services. Sec. 2-69. Fire Company. The Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department, a volunteer fire- fighting organization, is designated and approved as a fire company with the city. The principal officer of such fire company shall be known as "the chief." 1978-9 -2 This ordinance shall take effect on May 1, 1978.
