19770111 1977-2ORDINANCE NO. 1977-2 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE SUBDIVISION ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, PERTAINING TO PEDESTRIAN AND VEHICULAR ACCESS IN SUBDIVISIONS. BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, that the Subdivision Ordinance of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, be and it hereby is amended to prescribe additional requirements for pedestrian and vehicular access for subdivisions, as follows: 1. Amend Article One, entitled, "Purpose.", as follows: a. Renumber (12) to (13). Insert the following as the new number (12), "safe and convenient pedestrian access between subdivisions and from subdivisions to schools, parks and other areas of public assembly;". Amend Article Two, entitled, "Definitions as used in this ordinance.", as follows: In paragraph 14, add the words "pedestrian paths" followed by a comma after the word "crosswalk," in line 2 and after the word "crosswalks," in line 8. be Add a new Paragraph 21 to read in its entirety as follows: "'Pedestrian Path' a path providing pedestrian access between subdivisions and from subdivisions to schools, parks, and/or other places of public assembly separate from streets or other access open to motorized vehicles." Amend Article Five, entitled, "The Preliminary Plat.", as follows: In Paragraph 2, subparagraph e, add the words "pedestrian paths" followed by a comma after the word "easements,". Amend Article Six,. entitled "Final Subdivision Plats." as follows: In Paragraph 2, subparagraph b, substitute the words "pedestrian paths," for "pedestrian way,". Amend Article Seven, entitled, "General Requirements and Minimum Standards of design for the Subdivision of Land.", as follows: In Paragraph 1, add the following new subparagraphs r and s, to read in their entirety as follows: "r. Pedestrian paths shall have rights of way with a minimum width of ten (10) feet. 1977-2 -2 The proposed street system shall be so arranged as to discourage through vehicular traffic, but where feasible, shall provide more than one entrance and exit to the subdivision." Amend Article Eight, entitled, "Improvements Required. as follows: In Paragraph 1, add a new subparagraph g to read in its entirety as follows: "g. A pedestrian path dedication shall be required where needed: "1. To provide safe and more convenient access to schools, parks, the bikeway system, or other public assembly areas. "2. To provide safe and convenient access between adjacent subdivisions and certain deadend streets within sub- divisions to facilitate pedestrian flow."
