An Ordinance Providing for Ramps
at Intersections
WHEREAS, section 15.1-381 of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as
amended, provides that the governing bodies of every city re-
quiring curbs along its streets, shall require that there be
constructed not less than two ramps per lineal block leading to
the crosswalks at intersections for use of handicapped persons;
and,
WHEREAS, said section of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as
amended, does not require ramps for curbs in place on January 1,
1975; but does require that such ramps leading to crosswalks be
constructed upon replacement of curbs at intersections thereafter;
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Fairfax,
Virginia, that the Zoning Code of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, bE
and the same hereby is, amended by adding a new section 3.101 to
read in its entirety as follows:
3.101. Ail curbs shall include not less than two
ramps per lineal block leading to the crosswalks at
intersections for use of handicapped persons. No
such ramps shall be required for curbs in place on
January 1, 1975; provided, however, that upon re-
placement of the said curbs thereafter, ramps leading
to crosswalks shall be required at intersections.
This ordinance shall become effective upon its adoption.
