AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 13-249
OF THE FAIRFAX CITY CODE
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax,
Virginia, that Section 13-249 of the Code of the City of Fairfax
be, and it hereby is, amended and reenacted to read in its
entirety as follows:
Sec. 13-249. License tax imposed.
(a) There is hereby imposed a license tax upon all motor vehicles,
trailers and semitrailers owned or regularly used by persons
residing within the city which are used upon the streets or high-
ways of the city, and upon motor vehicles, trailers and semi-
trailers owned by nonresidents of the city when used in the con-
duct of any business or occupation within the city, except as
provided in subsection (b) hereinafter.
(b) No such license tax shall be imposed upon the following:
(i) a trailer or semitrailer designed for use as living
quarters for human beings;
(ii) a one or two wheel trailer of a cradle, flatbed or
open pickup type which has a body width not greater than the width
of the motor vehicle to which it is attached at any time of
operation, which is pulled or towed by a passenger car or station
wagon, or a pickup or panel truck having an actual gross vehicle
weight not exceeding five thousand pounds, and which is used for
carrying property not exceeding one thousand five hundred pounds
at any one time:
(iii) all trailers designed exclusively to transport boats.
Nothing contained in this subsection (b) shall be construed as

excepting those trailers or semitrailers operated under lease or
rental agreement, or operated for compensation, from the imposi-
tion of license taxes under this section.
