AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE
OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA BY EXTENDING THE DATE
OF THE EXPIRATION OF THE RESTRICTION OF DEVELOPMENT IN THE
CENTER CITY AREA SET FORTH AN ORDINANCE NO. 1972 - 35
WHEREAS, the City Council by resolution has created a
Center City Commission to study and develop a comprehensive plan
for the development of the Center City and to report to Council
in a limited period of time; and
WHEREAS, the present map of Comprehensive Development
Plan contains an area known as the Center City and designated on
the said map as "This area to remain undesignated pending further
study"; and
WHEREAS, for the reasons stated in the preamble of the
Ordinance No. 1972 - 35building and development in the Center
City area has been restricted in the fashion therein set forth
which restriction expires on March 31, 1973; and
WHEREAS, the first formal report of the Center City
Commission has been tendered and received by the City Council
and a second such report is expected in the near future; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has directed the City Planning
Commission and the City Staff to prepare and submit to the
Council an amendment to the Comprehensive Development Plan based
upon the data and recommendations contained in the initial report
of the Center City Commission; and
WHEREAS, because of the foregoing there is a continuing
necessity to provide for the orderly development of the affected
area of the City, to-wit, that area designated on the map of
Comprehensive Development Plan as "This area to remain undesignat-
ed pending further study", while the said amendment to the
Comprehensive Plan is being studied and prepared;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council
that Section 16 of the Zoning Ordinance of Fairfax City be and
it hereby is amended by deleting in line three thereof the words
"March 31, 1973" and substituting therefore the words June 30, 1973.
