AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR SUPPLEMENTARY
GROUP LIFE INSURANCE FOR CITY EMPLOYEES
OR GROUPS THEREOF.
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax,
Virginia that Chapter 2 of the Code of the City of Fairfax,
Virginia be and it hereby is amended by the addition of a new
article numbered Article VII thereto, reading in its entirety as
follows:
Article VII. Supplementary Group Life Insurance
Sec. 2-39. Voluntary Plans Funded By Employees Permitted.
City employees or any group thereof may from time to time
agree with one or more insurance companies authorized to do busi-
ness in the Commonwealth of Virginia for the purchase of group
life insurance covering such employees or such group thereof,
provided, however, that all premiums and other costs thereof are
paid entirely by said employees or group thereof.
Sec. 2-40. Payroll Deductions Authorized.
The City Treasurer, upon receipt in writing of instructions
to do so from any member of any group of city employees who have
agreed to purchase group life insurance from any such insurance
company, is authorized to make payroll deductions for premiums
or other costs of such insurance from the salary of such employee
and to remit such deducted funds directly to the said insurance
company.
Inasmuch as the opportunity for certain employees to obtain
group life insurance at favorable rates may be lost unless this
ordinance takes effect immediately, an emergency exists and this
ordinance shall take effect as an emergency ordinance immediately.
