AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND RE-ENACTING
SECTION 2-2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, TO PROVIDE FOR THE
METHOD OF DESIGNATION OF PERSONS TO ACT
AS CITY MANAGER IN CASE OF ABSENCE, DEATH,
ETC. OF CITY MANAGER
Be it ordained by the Council~of the City of Fairfax, Virginia,
that Section 2-2 of the Code of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, be
amended and re,enacted to read in its entirety, as follows:
Sec. 2-2. Designation of persons to act as City Manager in Case
of absence~ death~ etc.~ of City Manager.
(a) The City Manager shall in the case of his absence designate
an Acting City Manager until the return to duty or replacement of the
City Manager.
(b) In case of the incapacity, deat~or resignation of the
City Manager, or in case the City Manager is absent and does not
designate an Acting City Manager, the City Council shall designate
an Acting City Manager until the replacement of the City Manager.
In the event the City Council does not make this designation, or is
unable to make this designation, the Director of Public Works shall
serve as Acting City Manager until the return to duty or replace-
ment of the City Manager.
In the event the Director of Public Works is unable to serve
or in the case of his absence, incapacity, death, or resignation
while serving, then the Chief of Police shall serve as Acting City
Manager until the return to duty or replacement of the City Manager.
In the event the Chief of Police is unable to serve or in the case
of his absence, incapacity, death, or resignation while serving,

then the City Comptroller shall serve as Acting City Manager
until the return to duty or replacement of the City Manager.
This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its
passage.
