19661220 1966-18OI~DINANCE NO. 1966-18 AMENDMENTS TO CHAPTER 6 OF THE CITY CODE Section 6-~ of the City Code is hereby amended to read as follows: 6-5 INSPECTIONS OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS PRIOR TO USE. Upon the pay- ment of the fee required by this chapter for an electrical permit, the electrical inspector shall make not more than two inspections of the work for which the permit was granted. Should additional inspections be necessary, due to the failure of the person installing such work to install the same in accordance with the provisions of this chapter, such person shall pay an additional fee of three dollars for each additional inspection. Any additional inspections made by the electrical inspector for causes other than the negligence of the person installing such work, except for the inspection of temporary service, shall be made without charge. .The first paragraph of Section 6-16 of the City Code is hereby amended'to read as follows~. 6-16 REQUIRED. No person shall enter into, engage in or work at the business of installing wires, devices, appliances and equipment for carrying or using electricity for lights, heat or power purposes, unless such person shall have received a certificate of registration, as a journeyman or master electrician, issued by the board of electrical examiners in accordance with the provisions of this chapter. Section 6-18 of the City Code is hereby amended to read as foliows: ' 6-18 TERM; RENEWAL. Certificates of registration issued pursuant to this division shall be issued for one year, commencing on January 1 of each year. Certificates of registration shall be renewed on or before January I of each year thereafter. Master electricians shall be required to appear in person for renewal of their license. Anyone failing to renew his master electrician's or journeyman' electrician's certificate of registration on or before February 1 of any year shall be re-examined before a new certificate of registration shall be issued. Pg. 2 Any master electrician's or journeyman electrician's certificate of registration which expires while the holder thereof is in the military or naval service of the United States shall be renewed without further examination, upon payment of the prescribed fees, at any time within six months after such person is discharged from the service. Section 6-1~ of the City Code is hereby amended to read as follows: 6-19 SUSPENSION AND REVOCATION. The board of electrical examiners may revoke or suspend any certificate of registration after sending second violation notice for failure of the holder to correct faulty work, for doing electrical work without a permit or for other violations of the provisions of this chapter. Before a certificate may be revoked or suspended, the holder thereof shall have notice in writing, enumerating the charges against him, and be entitled to a hearing by the board in not less than ten days from receipt of the notice. He shall be given an opportunity to present oral or written testimony, and shall have the right of cross examination. All testimony shall be given under oath. The board shall have the power to administer oaths, issue subpoenas and compel the attendance of witnesses. A person whose certificate of registration has been revoked shall not be permitted to apply within one year from date of revocation. It shall be unlawful for him to enter into, engage in or work at the business of installing electrical wires, devices, appliances and equipment during the period for which his certificate of registration is revoked or suspended. Section 6-25 of the City Code is hereby repealed. Section 6-2~ of the City Code is hereby amended to read as follows: 6-29 QUALIFICATIONS OF APPLICANTS; APPLICATION FOR EXAMINATION. Applicants for journeyman electrician's certificates must be eighteen years of age and shall have had at least three years experience as an apprentice electrician or helper. An applicant shall make a written application for examination. Pg. 3 Section 6-72 of the City Code is hereby repealed. Section 6-44 of the City Code is hereby repealed and the following substituted: 6-44 FEES -- ENUMERATED. Fees in such amount as specified below shall be charged for the permits and inspections required by this Chapter. The prescribed fees shall be paid at the time the permit is'issued and before any inspection shall be made by the electrical inspector. Such fees shall be as follows: a. GENERAL WIRING. Service Equipment, new or replace 200 amperes or under .................... $3.00 201 to 400 amperes ...................... 5.00 401 to 600 amperes ...................... 6.00 601 to 800 amperes ...................... 8.00 Over 800 amperes ........................ 10.00 Temporary service pending final inspection .................... $3.00 Circuits, new or extension - First Five ....................... $1.00 ea. Note: Three and four-wire branch circuits not supplying a single appliance will be considered as two or three branch circuits respectively, and will be charged accordingly. Three-wire branch power circuits to a single piece of apparatus will be considered as one branch circuit. No charge will be made for feeder circuits when installed in conjunction with branch circuits, but when installed without branch circuit wiring the charge will be the same as that for branch circuits. When additional branch or feeder circuits are installed after the securing of a permit, the fee for the work not covered by the original permit shall be the same as for an original installation. The fee for extension to an existing circuit shall be the same as for a new circuit. b. FIXTURES. Section 6-62.1 is hereby added to the City Code to read as follows: 6-62.1 In residential multiple occupancy buildings each occupant shall be capable of disconnecting his individual occupancy without disconnecting any other occupant. This shall be accomplished by either a disconnect at the head of the sub-feeder or by installing in the individual sub panel a main pullout or breaker. Section 6-62.2 is hereby added to the City Code to read as follows: 6-62.2 Non-metallic sheathed cable shall not be permitted in commercial or industrial buildings within the City of Fairfax. Section 6-62.3 is hereby added to the City Code to read as follows: 6-62.3 Lighting and appliance branch circuit panelboards shall have the use of each circuit marked and accessible on the inside cover of the panelboard.
