19671205 1967-11ORDINANCE NO. 1967-11 AN ORDINANCE ENACTED AS AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE REGULATING THE SPEED OF MOTOR VEHICLES ON A CERTAIN PORTION OF MAIN STREET IN THE CITY OF FAIRFAX. The City Council hereby declares an emergency to exist on and along that certain portion of Main Street between Roberts Road and Route 237; that said emergency is occasioned by an ex- cessive speed limitation, congestion of motor vehicle traffic and an overload of pedestrian traffic across and along said portion of said highway; and that immediate action is required for the public safety. Accordingly the City Council, as an emergency mea- sure and upon a review of an engineering and traffic investigation, hereby ordains as follows: 1. That the speed limit on both eastbound and westbound lanes of Main Street between Roberts Road and Route 237 be, and it hereby is, fixed at twenty-five miles per hour. 2. That the aforesaid speed limit shall take effect im- mediately upon the adoption of this ordinance and the erection or location of appropriate signs or markers. The City Manager is here- by directed to erect or locate adequate and appropriate signs or markers forthwith. 3. This ordinance shall remain in effect for a period of sixty days from the date of its enactment unless sooner amended or repealed. 4. Any person violating any provision of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished according to law.
