RESOLUTION R-04-75
WHEREAS, L. Patrick. "Pat" Laing began his teaching career at Fairfax High School in
1972 and became Student Activities Director in 1982 and;
WHEREAS, Pat Laing serVed with great distinction as friend, coach, teacher and mentor
to thousands of Fairfax area students, and ~
WHEREAS, Pat Laing suddenly and unexpectedly passed away in March of this year
while engaged in doing what he liked best - organizing sports activities for the benefit of
students at Fairfax High School; and
WHEREAS, Pat Laing was a good friend of the residents of the City of Fairfax, often
encouraging students to engage in volunteer efforts for their benefit; and
WHEREAS, Pat Laing has earned a revered place in the memory and hearts of all who
knew him; and
WHEREAS, it is befitting Pat Laing's honor and memory that the Fairfax High School
Gymnasium be re-named the Patrick Laing Memorial Gymnasium so that all who enjoy
its activities will know the legacy of a beloved friend and teacher;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council
enthusiastically endorses the designation of the Fairfax High School Gynmasium as the
Patrick Laing Memorial Gymnasium and expresses its appreciation to the City of Fairfax
School Board for bestowing this well-deserved honor upon Pat Laing and his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family
of L. Patrick Laing and also to representatives of Fairfax High School at the ceremony
naming the Fairfax High School Fieldhouse in Mr. Laing's memory.
