R-04-79 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO PROGRAM AN URBAN HIGHWAY PROJECT FOR THE FOLLOWING PROJECTS: LEE HIGHWAY WIDENING FROM CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD TO WCL; LEE HIGHWAY WIDENING FROM EATON PLACE TO CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD; CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD ADD A NORTH BOUND LANE FROM LEE HIGHWAY TO EXISTING 3 LANE SECTION; RELOCATE UNIVERSITY DRIVE FROM ARMSTRONG STREET TO POHICK LANE (GEORGE MASON BOULEVARD); MAIN STREET/PICKETT ROAD TURN LANES AND SIGNALIZATION; BUS STOP ACCESSIBILITY IMPROVEMENTS; AND VIDEO TRAFFIC MONITORING CAMERAS IN THE CITY OF FAIRFAX WHEREAS, in accordance with Virginia Department of Transportation construction allocation procedures, it is necessary that a request by council resolution be made in order that the Department program an urban highway project in the City of Fairfax; now BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia requests the Virginia Department of Transportation to establish and or continue urban highway projects in the City of Fairfax; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Fairfax hereby agrees to pay its share of the total cost for preliminary engineering, right of way and construction of these project in accordance with Section 33.1-44 of the Code of Virginia, and that, if the City of Fairfax subsequently elects to cancel any of these projects, the City of Fairfax hereby agrees to reimburse the Virginia Department of Transportation for the total amount of the costs expended by the Department through the date the Department is notified of such cancellation; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Fairfax designates the City Manager as a duly authorized officer to execute an agreement between the Virginia Department of Transportation and the City of Fairfax for the development and administration of the following projects: Lee Highway Widening from Chain Bridge Road to WCL; Lee Highway Widening from Eaton Place to Chain Bridge Road; Chain Bridge Road Add a North Bound Lane from Lee Highway to Existing 3 Lane Section; Relocate University Drive from Armstrong Street to Pohick Lane (George Mason Boulevard); Main Street/Pickett Road Turn Lanes and Signalization; Bus Stop Accessibility hnprovements; and Video Traffic Monitoring Cameras.
