A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE NORTHFAX GATEWAY FLOODPLAIN
STUDY AND AUTHORIZING SUBMITTAL TO FEDERAL EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT AGENCY
WHEREAS, the Economic Development Authority has commissioned the
engineering firm of Patton, Harris, Rust and Associates to study the impact of the floodplain
on the Northfax Gateway Project, and;
WHEREAS, the engineers have performed said study and have made certain
recommendations as noted in the report entitled Northfax Gateway Redevelopment Study -
100 Year Floodplain Analysis, and;
WHEREAS, these recommendations will allow for containment of the storm water of
the 100 year flood and ff improvements as recommended implemented will result in the
reclamation of nearly eight acres of floodplain lands.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1T RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Faiffax,
Virginia that:
1. The floodplain study is accepted by the City and its implementation should be
undertaken at the earliest opportunity.
2. That the City Manager be authorized to execute the Federal Emergency
Management Agency ("FEMA") documents to transmit the study to FEMA and seek FEMA
authorization in the form of a conditional letter of map revision.
3. Floodplain maps will not be revised until the improvements are implemented
and FEMA has reviewed and approved the as-built engineering report and floodplain
analysis.
