R-96-46 A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE COMMUNITY APPEARANCE PLAN OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX REGARDING THE WIDTH OF THE UTILITY STRIP AND THE PLACEMENT OF DECORATIVE STREET LIGHTS WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax is a unique place, and should be differentiated from other jurisdictions in the region through distinctive and superior community appearance; and WHEREAS, the city is best experienced by walking in an attractive natural and built environment which is essential to the community's quality of life; and WHEREAS, the City Council adopted Appearance Plan on April 26, 1994; the Community NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Fairfax to amend the Community Appearance Plan to incorporate the following: 1. In all new development, redevelopment, city highway projects and state highway projects there must be constructed within the public right-of-way a utility or green strip between the curb and the sidewalk of four (4) feet or more, except in the case where existing conditions are such that this design is impractical. 2. In all city highway projects and state highway projects; and whenever required by City Council as a condition of development or redevelopment; or when proffered by a developer, pedestrian-scale, decorative street lighting must be located within the utility or green strip between the curb and the sidewalk, where feasible, to achieve a uniformity of alignment along city highways.
