RESOLUTION ON THE ORGANIZATION AND MISSION OF
THE CITY/UNIVERSITY/BUSINESS COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, on February 6, 1979, the City Council established the City/
University/Business Community Committee to report and make recommendations
on the relationships and roles of the community and the University; and
WHEREAS, the Committee has been a valuable resource to the City, the
University and the business community for 10 years; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate after that period of experience to review the
Committee's organization and role and such review has been accomplished;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The City/George Mason University/Business Committee, commonly
known as the CUB Committee, remains an important element in
ensuring the Coordination of mutual interests in the community
of the City of Fairfax, George Mason University and local
business.

The mission of the CUB Committee is to identify and advise on
the opportunities which may be realized in City/GMU/business
partnership and to identify means to mitigate any irritants
which may arise.
3. The membership of the CUB Committee is established as follows:
City Council shall appoint two (2) members and one (1)
alternate, all of whom shall be members of the City
Council.

George Mason University shall appoint three (3) members:
two (2) from its senior staff and one (1) student repre-
sentative who understands and articulates well the
student perspective.

The Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce shall appoint
two (2) representatives, one of whom shall be its
president or designee.

The Old Town Fairfax Business Association shall appoint
one (1) representative, normally its president.

One (1) representative from the following boards/
commissions:
(1) Planning Commission
(2) School Board
(3) Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
(4) Commission on the Arts
(5) Historic Fairfax, Inc.
(6) Commission for Women.

Three (3) citizens-at-large shall be selected by City Council,
one (1) of whom shall be from the Green Acres Subdivision
selected by the Council from recommendations by the Southeast
Fairfax Citizens Association.

The City Manager (or his designee) will be a non-voting
member to represent the staff and serve as reporter.
Terms of office for membership shall be as follows:

City Council members' terms shall be concurrent wi th their
two-year term of office.

Terms of office for membership from George Mason University,
the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce and the Old Town
Fairfax Business Association shall be determined by each
organization.

Terms of office for citizen-at-large positions shall be for
two years.

Representatives from City boards/commissions shall serve
while appointed to their respective boards/commissions and
at the pleasure of those boards/commissions.
The Chairman of the CUB Committee shall be selected by the City
Council from its membership on the Committee.
The CUB Committee shall operate as an advisory board to the
City Council, the president of George Mason University and the
business community. The Chairman, or his designated representative
shall prepare a quarterly report of CUB Committee activities which
will be submitted to the City Council, president of George Mason
University, the presidents of participating business organizations
and the chairs of represented boards and commissions under the
signature of the CUB Committee chairman.
The CUB Committee is charged with the following:
Identify opportunities to cooperate and to address concerns
in which the City, the University and business community are
mutually interested and which promise improvements in the
effectiveness, economic health and environment of all
entities; and

Propose to the City Council programs and courses of action the
Committee designs in carrying out this charge; and
Ce
Identify research capabilities, facilities, educational
programs, cultural and athletic attractions and other assets
and offerings of the University that could be more fully
utilized by the City of Fairfax government, its citizens
and the business community; and
Undertake such other deliberations and activities as are
consistent with the spirit of this charge.
