Resolution Adopting Procedures For Board Vacancies
~/HEREAS, al/ Council members will be ex-of£icio members and shah be non-
voting, with the exception of the Council members appointed to the City/Univer_
sity/Business Committee and to the Administrative Retirement Committee, and
~HEREAS, ail members of boards representing other boards will serve as
voting members, and
~HEREAS, no person will serve on more than one board except for those
serving on technical committees, as liaison members, task force members or those
serving on regional boards. If a person has received a judicial appointment, i.e., to
the Board of Zoning Appeals, they would not be eligible for appointment to a City
board. However, this does not apply to reappointment of current members, and
~YHEREAS, the City Clerk shall notify the Mayor and City Council of openings
at least 120 days prior to their expiration (*except the School Board). The City
Council will discuss openings at least 90 days prior to their expiration. The City
Council will then notify the City Manager which positions should be advertised. If
the positions are to be advertised, the City Manager will be directed to advertise
these positions twice in the Cityscene, and
~YHEREAS, listings of board openings in the Cityscene will carry a brief
synopsis of the board's function. AIl letters of interest will ~e acknowledged and
information related to the board will be sent to the candidates, and
~HEREAS, at the request of Council, interviews may be conducted for ap-
t to the following boards: Planning Commission, Board of Architectural
Review, School Board, Board of Equalization of Real Estate Assessments, Parks and
Recreation Advisory Board, Community Appearance Committee, City/Univer-
sity/Business Committee, Commission on the Arts, Board of Building Code Appeals
(Housing Hygiene Division), Industrial Development Authority, Transportation Safety
Commission, Personnel Advisory Board, Historic Fairtax City, Inc., and the Commis-
sion for Women. The City Council also may choose to interview candiates for ap-
pointment to various regiona/ boards.
*Separate School Board procedure set forth by state law.
NO~, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Fairfax, Virginia, hereby adopts and endorses the above procedures for board va-
can ci es.
