R-87-6 WHEREAS, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Service will not be able to continue to serve the Commonwealth Emergency Room unless it is officially designated as a full-service Emergency Room; and WHEREAS, the Commonwealth Emergency Room is centrally located and serves citizens in and around the City of Fairfax area; and WHEREAS, the continuation of the availability of emergency care is of critical importance to the City of Fairfax; and WHEREAS, because of the high volume of traffic throughout the Northern Virginia area, without access to the Commonwealth Emergency Room many individuals might be in excess of 20 to 30 minutes from needed emergency care; and WHEREAS, as an existing facility, operation as a full-service emergency room would not entail new expenditures for construction or special equipment; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Fairfax, Virginia, supports the application for a Certificate of Public Need for the Commonwealth Emergency Room and urges that the Certificate of Need be granted.
