RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE CITY/GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY/
BUSINESS COMMUNITY COORDINATING COMMITTEE AS PERMANENT
WHEREAS, on February 6~ 1979~ the City Council established the City/George
Mason University]Business Community Committee to report and make recom-
mendations on the relationships and roles of the community and the University; and
WHEREAS~ on November 6, 1979~ the City Council extended the City/George
Mason University/Business Community Committee for an indefinite term; and
WHEREAS~ the Committee has been a valuable resource to the City~ to the
University, and to the business community for more than two years; and
WHEREAS~ the Committee membership has remained in an indefinite status for
the same period,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
1. The City/George Mason University Business Community Committee, com-
monly known as The CUB Committee~ is established as a permanent committee.
2. Its membership of twelve (12) is established as follows:
a. City Council shall appoint two (2) members and one alternate, all of whom
shall be members of the City Council.
b. George Mason University shall appoint two (2) members from its administra-
tive staff~ one of whom shall be the president or designee.
c. The Fairfax City Chamber of Commerce shall appoint two (2) members
from its membership, one of whom shall be its president.
d. The Planning Commission shall appoint one member who shall be the chair-
man or designee.
e. The Industrial Development Authority shall appoint one member who shall
be the chairman or designee.
f. Three citizens=at-large shall be selected by the City Council~ one of whom
shall be from the Green Acres Subdivision selected by the Council from recom-
mendations by the Southeast Fairfax Citizens Association.
g. The City Manager shall appoint one non-voting member to represent the
staff.
Terms of office for membership shall be as follows:
a. City Council members' terms shall be concurrent with their two-year
term of office.
b. Terms of office for membership from George Mason University, the
City Chamber of Commerce~ the Planning Commission~ and the Industrial
Development Authority shall be determined by each organization.
c. The City Manager may serve the length of employment or the designee
shall serve at the pleasure of the City Manager.
d. The two citizens-at-large positions are herewith declared vacant as of
October I and the new appointment shall be for a two-year period as of
October 1~ 19~2. Reconsideration of these appointments shall be every two
years from October~ 19~2.

C. Make recommendations regarding whether a permanent
or continuing committee under City Council should be
established to provide for coordination between the
City, the University and the business community,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the membership of the City/
University/Business CoL~m~unity Coordinating Committee be as
follows:
City Council (2 positions) Member of City Council to be designated Chairman
Representatives of George Mason University (2 positions)
Representatives of the Chamber of Commerce (2 positions)
Chairman or designee of the Planning Commission
Chairman or designee of the Industrial Development
Authority
Citizens at large represented (2 positions)
Staff: City Manager or his designee and the City Attorney
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City/University/Business
Community Coordinating Committee would meet upon call of the
Chairman to carry out the tasks assigned in this resolution and
would make its recommendations to Council within three months
of the initial meeting called by the Chairman.
