KESOLUTION HELATIVE TO MAK~ING~THE
FAIRFAX VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT
A DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, desire~
to provide the citizens of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, with
modern and capable fire protection and rescue service in the most
efficient manner possible; and,
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, believe
it to be in the best interests of the City of Fairfax, Virginia,
retain and develop volunteer fire service within the City of
Fairfax, Virginia; and,
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, in
order to accomplish more fully the goals set forth hereinabove,
desires to recognize the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.,
as the only organization responsible for fire protection and
rescue service in the City of Fairfax, and to assume the present
responsibilities of the County of Fairfax in supporting Fire
Station No. 3; and,
WHEREAS, it will be necessary to coordinate the assumption
of such responsibilities with the County of Fairfax, Virginia.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor of the City of
Fairfax, Virginia, is hereby directed immediately to notify the
County of Fairfax, Virginia, in writing, of the intention of the
City of Fairfax, Virginia, to establish a separate Fire Department
in the City of Fairfax, Virginia, to be operated under the directi,
and control of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, on or before July 1,
1975, by recognizing the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.,
as the only organization responsible for fire protection and rescu
service in the City of Fairfax, and by assuming those responsibili
presently carried out by the County of Fairfax, Virginia, for Fire
Station No. 3, and that the Mayor request that negotiations be
instituted to determine the area of primary responsibility for
said fire station and to facilitate the transfer of paid employees

and the use of communications and training facilities.
