RE S OLUT I ON
WHEREAS the delay, congestion and frustration inherent
with the present transportation system in Northern Virginia is of
major concern to the local governments in the area; and
WHEREAS uncoordinated traffic signal control devices
are a major contributor to the delay and congestion that currently
exists on the highway system throughout Northern Virginia; and
WHEREAS the Virginia Department of Highways has proposed
that a study be conducted on the feasibility of interconnection
and computerization of traffic signals in Northern Virginia; and
WHEREAS such a feasibility study is estimated to cost
approximately $90,000, with the local governments' share of the
study cost estimated at approximately $10,000; and
WHEREAS the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission
has investigated and endorsed the proposed study, and has agreed to
serve as the catalyst for the participation of local governments
comprising the Northern Virginia Transportation District in the
project; as well as to provide the local share funding for its
member jurisdictions;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of
the City of Fairfax, Virginia at a regular meeting held on November 6,
1972 at City Hall does hereby endorse the sponsorship and representation
of the local governments' interest by the Northern Virginia Transportation
Commission in the proposed feasibility study of the interconnection
and computerization of traffic signals in Northern Virginia to be
conducted in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Highways.
