19680416 r-68-1aRESOLUTION WHEREAS the City of Fairfax has contracted with the County of Fairfax for the operation of its school system, and the provisions of the City/County Agreement of 1965 and the tuition contract of 1965 indicate that it shall be the respon- sibility of the County of Fairfax to provide high school facil- ities for City pupils; and WHEREAS an advisory referendum was conducted on April 11, 1968 by the City of Fairfax to determine the wishes of the citizens regarding the conversion of the Sidney Lanier Intermediate School for high school purposes; and WHEREAS the citizens voting in said referendum have expressed their disapproval of this conversion and the City Council is desirous of accepting their advice in this matter; and WHEREAS it is now necessary and evident that the City Council and the City School Board of the City of Fairfax must seek new alternatives; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that it is the sense of the City Council and the City School Board of the City of Fairfax: That a community high school should be built of sufficient capacity to provide for all the pupils of the City of Fairfax; That the City of Fairfax should continue to operate under the provisions of the City/ County Agreement of 1965 as it relates to schools and under the tuition contract of 1965; That it is the desire of the City of Fairfax to provide for a community high school and to amend such agreements as may be required to serve this purpose; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resol- ution shall be transmitted to the Board of Supervisors and the School Board of Fairfax County and that discussions with Fairfax County in implementation of this resolution be initiated as soon hereafter as may be practicable.
