19670606 r-67-5RESOLUTION R-67-5 WHEREAS, the "Potomac River Basin Report" of the Corps of Engineers and the subsequent "Potomac Interim Report" jointly prepared by the Federal Interdepartmental Task Force on the Potomac and the Governors' Potomac River Advisory Com- mittee recommended the immediate construction of the Bloomington Dam as one of the necessary impoundments to achieve a twenty- year margin of safe water supply for the Metropolitan Washington Area, and WHEREAS, Congress has appropriated in prior years the necessary planning and engineering funds for the Bloomington Dam, and. WHEREAS, such planning and engineering work has reached the stage to enable initial construction of the facility to be undertaken during the fiscal year 1968, and WHEREAS, the budget of the Corps of Engineers does not propose funds to begin construction work on Bloomington Dam in the fiscal year 1968, and WHEREAS, it has been recognized that immediate construc- tion of the Bloomington facility is necessary to the assurance of adequate water supply in the Washington Metropolitan Area during the next twenty years, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, as follows: 1. It is hereby urged that Congress appropriate adequate funds to enable the initial construction work on the Bloomington Dam to be undertaken during the fiscal year 1968. 2. That the Clerk of the Council is hereby di- rected to send copies of this resolution to the Chair- men of the Committees on Public Works and Appropriations of the House and Senate and to the entire Virginia Congressional delegation.
