Resolution Endorsing an Application to the Virginia Department of Rail and Public
Transportation's Transit Ridership Incentive Program.
WHEREAS, public transit is an effective means to support the City's
sustainability goals such as air quality improvements, energy
conservation, reduced congestion, reduced commuting costs, and
increased access to jobs and local businesses; and
WHEREAS, the City believes in supporting equitable access to these benefits;
and
WHEREAS, CUE suspended fare collection in March, 2020 and formally
adopted a zero -fare policy in 2022; and
WHEREAS, the city received a Transit Ridership Incentive Program grant
through the Virginia Department of Rail and Public
Transportation to reduce the local costs of a zero -fare pilot
program; and
WHEREAS, the city is hereby requesting a second TRIP grant to facilitate the
continuation of the zero -fare policy; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia
endorses CUE's DRPT TRIP application that would extend the
zero -fare program for another four-year period and commits to
fund its required local share.
