RESOLUTION TO REAFFIRM PREVIOUS APPROVAL FOR THE GEORGE
SNYDER TRAIL PROJECT

WHEREAS, the City's adopted Comprehensive Plan, Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan and other
adopted planning documents recommend construction of the George Snyder Trail, an off -road two-mile
paved trail between Chain Bridge Road and approximately Draper Drive north of Fairfax Blvd (the
"Project"); and
WHEREAS, the City pursued and received I-66 Concession Fee funds in 2017, as well as Congestion,
Mitigation, and Air Quality (CMAQ) funding, to complete the Project; and
WHEREAS, the City executed a project agreement with VDOT to administer this Project in accordance
with the guidelines for Locally Administered Projects, on May 8, 2018; and
WHEREAS, the City conducted the Project design process, including public engagement and a formal
Public Hearing in October, 2020; and
WHEREAS, the City developed final engineering plans and commenced the right-of-way acquisition
process; and
WHEREAS, the City Council previously paused proceeding to advertisement of the Project while it
considered alternatives to the approved Project, including cancellation, but has now determined that it
wishes to reaffirm its approval of the Project as designed.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia that it
hereby reaffirms its previous approval of the Project as designed and that City staff is directed to
undertake all necessary action to advertise the Project as designed.
