R-23-32 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA CITY COUNCIL OF SUPPORT OF THE METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS IN ITS PROPOSED ROLE TO SERVE AS THE LEAD GRANTEE FOR THE CHARGING AND FUELING INFRASTRUCTURE DISCRETIONARY GRANT PROGRAM WHEREAS, The Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration announced $700 million in funding under the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program to strategically deploy electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and other alternative fueling infrastructure. WHEREAS, in alignment with the goals and objectives outlined in the city's 2035 Comprehensive Plan, the city aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to create a cleaner, resilient, and healthier community through partnering with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments to apply for this grant funding and install EV charging infrastructure. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Fairfax commits to partnering with COG to ensure the EV charging infrastructure planning effort meets the requirements of the FHWA CFI program. Alongside COG and other partners, the City of Fairfax plans to participate in this initiative by supporting the development of a robust and accessible charging and fueling network, crucial for accelerating the adoption of electric and alternative fuel vehicles. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, the project will create jobs in the community, stimulate the local economy, and serve as a model for other regions looking to invest in clean transportation infrastructure. The City of Fairfax believes that the proposed project aligns well with the goals and objectives of the CFI Discretionary Grant Program and will make a significant impact on our community and its environment. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, The City of Fairfax appreciates the opportunity to partner with COG and make climate progress by building upon the region's goals to lower emissions, bolster the region's economy, and support environmental justice. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, the City of Fairfax hereby agrees to support the implementation of the project funds as outlined by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, and ensure the project is developed in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local requirements. The City of Fairfax also agrees to uphold all administrative and reporting requirements. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, the City Council of the City of Fairfax hereby grants authority for the City Manager to sign a letter of support for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments in its proposed role to serve as the lead grantee for the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI Program) Discretionary Grant Program.
