A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA CITY COUNCIL
OF ENDORSEMENT OF THE CITY'S SUBMISSION OF THE USDA FOREST SERVICE
— URBAN AND COMMUNITY FORESTRY INFLATION REDUCTION ACT GRANT
PROGRAM APPLICATION
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Forest Service announced $1
billion in funding under the new US Forest Service Urban & Community Forestry Inflation
Reduction Act Grant Program.
WHEREAS, in alignment with the goals and objectives outlined in the City's 2035
Comprehensive Plan and the City Council's Environmental Sustainability and Stewardship
goal and priorities, aims to launches an urban forestry initiative to actively manage the City's
urban forest through community stewardship and urban forest equity.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Fairfax endorses the submission of
the USDA Forest Service grant application of approximately 1.1 million dollars for the project
titled, Stewarding, Planting, Restoring Our Urban Trees (SPROUT).
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, the City of Fairfax hereby agrees to support the
implementation of the project funds as outlined in the grant proposal, and ensure the project is
developed in accordance to all applicable federal, state and local requirements. The City of
Fairfax also agrees to uphold all administrative and reporting requirements, and commitments
as stated in the proposal.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, the City of Fairfax hereby agrees to sustain the project
in its entirety and be responsible for ongoing maintenance and operating costs of the project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT The City Council of the City of Fairfax hereby grants
authority for the City Manager to apply for funds and execute project administration
agreements, as well as other documents necessary for approved projects.
