RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE OLD LEE HIGHWAY MULTIMODAL
IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT MAJOR DESIGN FEATURES
WHEREAS, the City has developed preliminary engineering plans for multimodal
improvements on Old Lee Highway between Layton Hall Drive and Ridge Avenue; and
WHEREAS, these plans were developed based on recommendations from the 2014
Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Transportation/Land Use Connection
(TLC) Program Visioning Study; and
WHEREAS, the City has been developing the 30% engineering plans since 2016; and
WHEREAS, the city has requested feedback on the plans between 2016 and now via a
stakeholder committee, an open house, and the project website; and
WHEREAS, features of the plans have been modified a number of times based on input
received; and
WHEREAS, the Major Design Features of the plan have now been identified and include the
following:
• Typical Section consisting of a sidewalk and 2-way separated bike facility on the
west side of the roadway, a sidewalk along the east side of the roadway, and one
vehicular travel lane in each direction
• Existing right and left turn lanes to remain (except Great Oaks)
• New turn lanes from NB to Sherwood, SB to Daniels Run Elementary School, NB
to Old Post Road, and NB to Great Oaks Drive
• Roundabout at Ridge Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the City is ready to advance the plans through final engineering and will
continue to evaluate other issues identified through the public process including private
entrance connections, landscaping and bus stops; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax,
Virginia that the City Council approves the Major Design Features of the Old Lee Highway
Multimodal Improvements Project.
