A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE POLICY
RELATED TO BEREAVEMENT HONORS PROVIDED BY THE CITY
TO ELECTED CITY OFFICIALS AND DESIGNATED FAMILY MEMBERS.
WHEREAS, it is deemed appropriate for the city to provide bereavement honors, in certain
circumstances, to current and past elected city officials, and
WHEREAS, it will be the policy of the city to provide such honors following the death of the
elected official or for a family member as specified elsewhere in this resolution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
1. Elected officials, for the purpose of this resolution, shall be defined as a current or
former Mayor, City Councilmember, Treasurer, or Commissioner of the Revenue.
2. Additionally, the spouse or significant other of the officials defined above shall be
eligible to receive such honors in accordance with the attachment to this resolution.
3. Bereavement honors shall be afforded at sites within the city and the metropolitan area
of Washington, D.C., only.
4. Coordination between the city and the family of the deceased will guide the
applicability of the provisions of this policy; the family may wish to modify the
honors provided or decline them all together.
5. The bereavement honors available are provided in the attached chart to this resolution.
