RESOLUTION TO ENDORSE THE CITY'S FY 21 AND 22 TRANSPORATION
ALTERNATIVES APPLICATIONS
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Commonwealth Transportation Board construction
allocation procedures, it is necessary that a resolution be received from the sponsoring
local jurisdiction or agency requesting the Virginia Department of Transportation
(hereinafter referred to as the "Department") establish a Transportation Alternatives
project in the City of Fairfax; and
WHEREAS, the City plans to apply for construction funds to construct the Sager Avenue
Sidewalk and purchaselinstall bike share infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, the City agrees to provide a minimum 20 percent matching contribution for
these projects; and
WHEREAS, the City hereby agrees to enter into a project administration agreement with
the Department and provide the necessary oversight to ensure the project is developed in
accordance with all state and federal requirements for design, right of way acquisition, and
construction of a federally funded transportation project; and
WHEREAS, the City will be responsible for maintenance and operating costs unless other
arrangements have been made with the Department; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that if the City subsequently elects to cancel these projects,
the City hereby agrees to reimburse the Department for the total amount of costs expended by
the Department through the date the Department is notified of such cancellation. The City
also agrees to repay any funds previously reimbursed that are later deemed ineligible by the
Federal Highway Administration; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council hereby grants authority for the City
Manager to execute project agreements for any approved Transportation Alternatives Set -
aside projects for Fiscal Year 2021/22; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that at their regular meeting of September 10,
2010, the City Council endorses the submission of the City's TA applications.
