FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY AND DEPARTMENT OF
HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT FOR STAFFING TO ENHANCE SAFETY AND
DEPLOYMENT CAPABILITIES
WHEREAS the mission of the Fire Department is to save lives, preserve property, protect the
environment, and ensure the health, safety, and wellness of themselves and the community;
WHEREAS to adequately support this mission the department needs to provide adequate
staffing and deployment capabilities in order to respond to emergencies, assuring communities
have adequate protection from fire and fire -related hazards.
WHEREAS the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland
Security have awarded the City of Fairfax grant funds in the amount of $438,392.00 in order to
hire and support the activities of a volunteer recruitment coordinator for a period of four years,
contingent upon the governing body's acceptance of those funds, now therefore;
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia that the City Manager
and his designees are hereby authorized to execute for and on behalf of the named applicant, a
public entity established under the laws of the State of Virginia, any actions necessary for the
purpose of obtaining federal financial assistance provided by the Federal Emergency
Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security as described above.
