A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING CITY POLICY REGARDING USE OF CITY
SEAL AND LOGO DESIGNS
WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax seeks to have a distinct and unique brand to
communicate to its various audiences for the purposes of government, economic development,
arts, culture, recreation and other needs and services; and
WHEREAS, the City Council retained a consultant to perform research, positioning,
design and launch for this brand and a 20 -member steering committee was established to
provide guidance during all phases of a re -branding project in 2016 and 2017 to ensure
recommendations were in accord with community expectations; and
WHEREAS, the result of the project was a recommendation for a multifaceted brand
approach; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to establish general usage guidelines incorporated
within a "City of Fairfax Brand Usage Guidelines" that details the specific circumstances when
and communication products on which the official City seal, unofficial logo design, and other
brand elements are to be used in communicating to various audiences;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Fairfax
does hereby establish the following:
1) This resolution endorses the "City of Fairfax Brand Usage Guidelines" document dated
April 25, 2017 and directs the City Manager to ensure that all City departments and
personnel comply with the guidelines contained therein;
2) The City Manager, or designee shall serve as the brand administrator to coordinate
activities and usage of the brand guidelines and shall be responsible for overseeing the
City brand and developing a coordinated, comprehensive strategy for its implementation
and promotion;
3) The brand administrator shall submit for inclusion in the City Council Adopted Policies
the "City of Fairfax Brand Usage Guidelines" at the start of each new Council term
highlighting any proposed changes or alterations to the guidelines from any previously
approved versions;
4) This resolution shall take effect immediately and the brand administrator shall submit
to Council an update on its implementation as soon as practical, but no later than July
1, 2017."
