RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR SOLARIZE NOVA, AN INITIATIVE OF THE
NORTHERN VIRGINIA REGIONAL COMMISSION AND THE LOCAL ENERGY
ALLIANCE PROGRAM, TO PROMOTE SOLAR ENERGY
WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Plan of the City of Fairfax recognizes that becoming more
sustainable will require reducing the use of non-renewable resources and the development and
use of renewable sources of energy; and
WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Plan of the City of Fairfax encourages private property
owners to incorporate sustainable measures; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax supports efforts to reduce energy use and related greenhouse
gas emissions; and
WHEREAS, the Northern Virginia Regional Commission (NVRC) is again sponsoring a
program through its not-for-profit partner, the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP), that
promotes the installation of energy efficient and renewable technologies for public benefit;
and
WHEREAS, the NVRC and LEAP will be initiating a second year of the "Solarize NOVA"
campaign in the City of Fairfax, which will promote home energy efficiency and solar energy;
and
WHEREAS, the Solarize NOVA campaign will utilize local installers and American- made
photovoltaic solar systems as part of this program; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Fairfax expresses its support for the NVRC and
LEAP as it continues to implement this program not only in Fairfax, but the Northern Virginia
Region;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Fairfax,
Virginia commends the NVRC and LEAP for their implementation of this program and
expresses its desire that interested residents and business owners carefully consider their
participation in Solarize NOVA to improve home energy efficiency and make available to
residents and business owners the opportunity to purchase solar systems at reduced prices;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia
supports the Solarize NOVA program, as it assists City homeowners and businesses, and
addresses the implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy to reduce the
greenhouse gas emissions associated with electrical power generation.
