Naming of "Armistice Turtora Field"
WHEREAS, Armistice Turtora has been a resident of the City of Fairfax since 1959;
and
WHEREAS, she has been actively involved in serving on City Boards and
Commissions over the past five decades; and
WHERAS, Armistice was instrumental in creating the Parks and Recreation Advisory
Board; and
WHEREAS, in 1969 was appointed the first chair of the Park and Recreation
Advisory Board, a trailblazing role for a woman at the time; and
WHEREAS, Armistice advocated for the purchase and development of parks
throughout the City; and
WHEREAS, Armistice continually worked for the betterment of the City through her
volunteer efforts; and
WHEREAS, in 2005 was appointed by Council to serve of the Commission of the
Arts and where she continues to serve today; and
WHEREAS, Armistice is an expert at tatting, and teaches at Nature's Yarn, in the
City; and
WHEREAS, Armistice continues to support many causes including the Spotlight on
the Arts, with Chesapeake Lace Day at Old Town Hall; and
WHEREAS, Armistice loves and supports Van Dyck Park, especially the open field
known affectionately as "The Bowl".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the open field known as "The Bowl" at Van
Dyck Park located on Old Lee Highway shall be known as the "Armistice Turtora Field" at
Van Dyck Park.
