FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY AND DEPARTMENT OF
HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT FOR FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS, ADVANCED LIFE
SUPPORT TRAINING, AND AIR COMPRESSOR
WHEREAS the mission of the Fire Department is to save lives, preserve property,
protect the environment, and ensure the health, safety, and wellness of themselves and the
community;
WHEREAS to adequately support this mission the department needs to provide
adequate training for identified target hazards in the community and provide training for
advanced life support personnel to improve patient care through advanced assessment and
interventions skills;
WHEREAS the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of
Homeland Security
have awarded the City of Fairfax grant funds in the amount of $97,273 with a local match
requirement of 10% or $9,727 in order to assist in training for responses to bulk flammable
liquids fires, advanced life support training at the paramedic level, and replacement of an air
compressor, contingent upon the governing body's acceptance of those funds, now therefore;
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax, Virginia that the City
Manager and his designees are hereby authorized to execute for and on behalf of the named
applicant, a public entity established under the laws of the State of Virginia, any actions
necessary for the purpose of obtaining federal financial assistance provided by the Federal
Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security as described
above.
